Why Bootstrapware exists

The boring parts of SaaS have a pricing problem.

Incumbents in import, feedback, onboarding, and retention price for funded teams. A $599 floor for a CSV importer is not a product flaw. It is a filter. We serve the teams it filters out.
Your CSV importer should not be your third-largest SaaS expense.
Struck-through $250 to $599 competitor entry prices next to Bootstrapware Importer at $19.99 and Feedback from $9.99, workspace pricing, no seat tax.

CSV / Excel importing

Dromo Professional

$599 / month

250 production imports included

Strong product. The floor assumes you're an enterprise data team.

Feature request boards

Canny Pro

$400 / month

Public roadmap and feedback suite

Excellent for public portals. Overbuilt when you only need an embed inside your app.

First-run setup checklist

Userflow Adoption Studio

$500 / month

1,000 MAU on monthly billing

Full DAP with tours and analytics. Bootstrapware Onboard is the narrow checklist embed at $9.99 / $19.99 without MAU tax.

In-app messaging (tours)

Appcues Growth

Custom / month

Product tours and in-app messaging

PM-friendly visual builder. Overbuilt when you only need a setup checklist behind your auth gate.

Cancellation / retention

Churnkey Starter

$250 / month

Billed yearly; under $5k/month churn volume

The ROI math works at scale. Before scale, this is your third-largest bill.

Pricing snapshot: public pages, August 2026. These products are genuinely good. Their pricing is designed for a different company than yours.

Funded-company stack totaling about $1,750 a month versus Bootstrapware Importer at $19.99 and Feedback at $9.99 or $19.99 per workspace.

What we're pushing against

Three things that made this category expensive.

We are not trying to beat Dromo or Canny at their own game. We are building for a customer those products are not optimized for.

The SaaS Tax

A feedback board, an import component, and a retention flow compound into hundreds of dollars a month. Together they have nothing to do with how much your business is growing.

Enterprise creep

A useful narrow tool becomes a suite, then a sales process. By the time it has governance and dedicated onboarding, you cannot afford it and you did not need most of it.

"I wanted a feature-request embed. I do not need a public roadmap portal."

Funded-company assumptions

Pricing justified against engineer salaries and Series B capital. Rational on a $2M budget. Irrational when that line item is a meaningful percentage of monthly revenue.

"This price makes sense for them. Not for me."

The product doctrine

Deliberately smaller software with small-company economics.

Bootstrapware does not win by rebuilding incumbents cheaper. It wins by refusing most of their feature surface. Could a single founder maintain this without it becoming a support burden? If not, it does not ship.

We do

  • Solve the 20% of features that cover 80% of small-company use cases
  • Workspace pricing with no per-seat tax
  • Pass commodity costs through transparently (BYOK where it makes sense)
  • Ship first-class APIs, typed SDKs, and stable error codes as standard features
  • Simple self-serve signup, configure, cancel, and export with no meeting required
  • Make leaving easy: webhook export, data export, no lock-in patterns

We don't

  • Enterprise sales motions, demo calls, or procurement loops
  • Opaque credit systems or metered billing that creates surprise invoices
  • Per-seat pricing when seats do not drive the underlying cost
  • Active human moderation, bespoke onboarding, or dedicated CSMs
  • Chase feature parity with a product that costs ten times our price
  • Hold customer data hostage behind cancellation flows

If you need SAML, a dedicated compliance review, a custom DPA, or fourteen permission levels, you have outgrown Bootstrapware. That is not a failure state. It means the product did its job.

Agent-native

Tell your coding agent what you need. We did the annoying part.

One npm package, typed props, and AGENTS.md rules for Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, and Windsurf. A capable agent should add an importer or a feedback board without the founder reviewing every step.
Prompt to coding agent to Bootstrapware packages. File bytes and post title or body are never sent to Bootstrapware APIs or MCP.

One install

pnpm add @bootstrapware/importer or @bootstrapware/feedback. No mandatory dashboard visit before writing a line of code.

Typed and documented

Full TypeScript types, stable error codes, and complete runnable examples. The agent can integrate without product ambiguity.

AGENTS.md ready

Copy the integration rules into your repo. Your agent will know which keys stay server-side and what must never be sent to Bootstrapware.

Guides: Importer, Feedback, Chat. Agent rules: Importer, Feedback, Chat.

Before you spend the weekend building it, or hundreds a month buying it, check if we have one.

Production software without venture pricing. Each product has its own page with full pricing, a live demo, and documentation.
